The term “fast fashion” didn’t always have the best connotations. In fact, it was akin to a dirty word in certain circles. But new digital textile printing technologies are changing that narrative and ushering in a new age of personalized fashion options.

Digital textile printing is reshaping the fast fashion industry, giving brands greater flexibility in the products, patterns, and even fabrics that can be offered, alongside offering a much more sustainable product that is needed in a more environmentally-conscious world.

The Center for Excellence in Surface Imaging, School of Design and Engineering, Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, is launching a new program aimed at surface decoration, of which digital textile printing is considered a major component.

As specialization in the field of digital printing continues to blur, Hitoshi Ujiie, professor of textile printing at Thomas Jefferson University, will hold a presentation “Emerging New Field of Surface Imaging” today at 3 pm in room N115.
