INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — June 6, 2018 — Vertellus, a manufacturer of specialty chemicals used in the production of industrial technologies around the globe, is introducing ZeMac copolymer technology to the coating and adhesive marketplace. This innovative technology is an excellent fit for many different adhesive and coating applications demanding targeted performance, strength requirements and value.
“Although relatively new to the adhesives and coating sector, ZeMac has long been trusted in many other industrial environments, including sizing of glass fibers for reinforcement, plastic compounding and as a high molecular weight surfactant and size regulator for microencapsulation of fragrances, specialty inks and phase change materials,” says Prasad Taranekar, marketing manager at Vertellus. “During conversations with technical and commercial leaders within the industry, it became clear that ZeMac copolymers can address some of the unmet performance needs of manufacturers in the adhesives and coating industries.”
ZeMac copolymers are engineered to deliver performance, value and functionality well suited to the adhesive and coating market. ZeMac E60 is an alternating copolymer of ethylene and maleic anhydride which contains 78 weight percentage of maleic anhydride. This composition is ideal for adhesive and coating applications, including laminating adhesives, multi-layer packaging, hot-melt adhesives, wood composite, edge bands, and as a sizing agent for minerals and flame retardants. ZeMac E60 can be melted or dissolved in water or a solvent to fit many application needs that require liquid application.
From a performance perspective, ZeMac copolymers enhance peel strength in sealing and laminating adhesive films and layers. As an adhesion enhancer, it can be used to improve adhesion with hard to bond surfaces, metals and other substrates such as aluminum foil. ZeMac copolymers also adhere well to nylon and polyesters used in multi-layer packaging films and in processes such as adhesive lamination and multi-layer co-extrusion. ZeMac E60 can enhance bond strength and adhesion across a variety of substrates. ZeMac copolymers can also be used as a stabilizer for emulsion systems in coatings to control molecular weight during emulsion polymerization.
