The Columbus Business Journal, Columbus, Ohio, reported this week that Taylor Communications is closing the Vectra Visual printing plant based here. According to the Journal, Vectra Visual, which is now a Taylor Communications subsidiary, was once one of the largest printing companies in the city.
In a statement to Wide-format Impressions, Taylor Communications noted, “Taylor Communications announced the closure of its Columbus, Ohio facility, which produces retail signs and graphics, primarily under the Vectra Visual brand, for Taylor Communications. The closure affects 63 employees, with operations completely ceasing by August 30, 2019.”
Vectra Visual also operates locations in both New York, N.Y., and Portland, Ore. At this time, no announcements have been made regarding those facilities.
According to Vectra Visual’s website, the company offered a full range of services at the Columbus location, including wide-format printing; litho, dye-sub, screen and digital print technologies; fulfillment and logistics; online asset management; a wide range of finishing options; installation services; and design/premedia services. Customers include Sephora, Adidas, Pier 1 Imports, and Nike.
According to the Columbus Business Journal, Taylor Vice President Steve Geiger wrote in a letter that, “Unfortunately, this facility closure will be permanent in nature, and will result in the permanent layoff of many employees.”
Taylor Communications is itself a subsidiary of Taylor Corp., which has more than 80 subsidiaries worldwide, and claims to be one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. Taylor Corp. is headquartered in Mankato, Minn., and had a range of printing and print-related businesses throughout its portfolio.
