As specialization in the field of digital printing continues to blur, Hitoshi Ujiie, professor of textile printing at Thomas Jefferson University, will hold a presentation “Emerging New Field of Surface Imaging” today at 3 pm in room N115.
The session aims to give an overview of the field of surface imaging. It will attempt to help attendees learn about the concepts, rationale and business opportunities associated with the field and, hopefully, assist them in building enough of an understanding to integrate the field into their business.
“This new discipline is transdisciplinary that moves beyond the pre-existing traditional fields of disciplines and encourages new ways of thinking without any preconceptions to the imaging industry,” Ujiie says.
Those preconceptions are something Ujiie hopes to change. He plans to educate attendees on the field itself, the multitude of ways that it can be used in business and how it is different from printing in the past.
“Surface imaging is defined as a discipline that visualizes any imageries on a wide range of substrates by advanced digital printing technologies including direct colorations, deposition and subtraction printing,” Ujiie explains.
Along with speaking on the field, he hopes to educate attendees on the thinking that goes along with the field and hopes to show how that can help attendee’s in their careers.
“The presentation also focuses on ‘system thinking’ in relation to complex digital textile supply chains, which will be critical for business success for the industry,” Ujiie says.
