Substrates, Equipment, and Opportunities
As a print provider, PRINTING United has been firmly circled on the calendar to provide competitive advantages in my region. We have very talented competition in our area, and finding solutions for our clients is a separator for Mandel Graphic Solutions. We have always felt that the investment in time and money in trade shows is expensive, and a return on this investment needs to be scripted and articulated. My focus is on:
- Unique substrates and display hardware
- Advanced finishing products — equipment and tools (especially for fabric)
- New market opportunities
Unique Substrates
All printers supply the classic materials and substrates, and when a vendor can bring different substrates and solutions to the table, doors open. I have my radar up for surfaces that are always a challenge, such as windows, floor/ground, and ceiling/overhead areas. Fabric is opening the eyes of architects, and the use in function and form is a great opportunity.
My specific need is finding display hardware that works well outside for events. The challenges of multiple ground surfaces (from grass to cement) and the ability to tackle wind is always our concern. Hardware for pull-up banners to pop-up displays are staples in the event and retail world. I will be looking for unique hardware focused on easier installation in the field, while assisting in the overall look of the tension fabric feel. SEG frame applications, for example, will be a priority for indoors and out. We have seen alternatives to SEG installation extrusions and are open to exploring those alternatives.
Finishing Equipment and Tools
We have heard the comments that printing is the “easy” part, and it is the finishing that separates vendors in niche markets. I do believe this to be true. PRINTING United presents the full gamut of finishing solutions. These solutions range from straightforward, all the way up to complete game changers for production flows. Automating fabric finishing is No. 1 on my “to see” list.
New Market Opportunities
One of the main reasons I am here is to network with peers. My co-printers have so much information and experience that I spend half my time at the show asking questions about the above areas and the market spaces where they have success selling. I always come away with several ideas to advance in markets that can utilize our capability. The goal is to collaborate with our prospects and clients, and pursue markets that are not accustomed to our mix of competencies. That is the ideal space to be. The knowledge received and relationships built are the highlight of the show.
