SGIA to Exhibit at 2018 USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo
The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) will exhibit at the fifth USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo, to be held April 7–8, 2018, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. SGIA will be among more than 500 participating organizations at the event, known as the largest celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), designed for children and their families.
Now a three-time exhibitor at the biennial event, SGIA will join leading scientific and engineering societies, universities, government agencies, high-tech corporations and STEM organizations in providing more than 3,000 hands-on activities for attendees.
“It’s extremely valuable for SGIA to engage and showcase career opportunities for younger generations, from kindergarten to college,” says Johnny Shell, VP, Print Technology and Training, SGIA. “The USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo is just one of several educational workforce development initiatives we participate in to support the future of the industry.”
At booth 1336, SGIA will teach attendees how to print T-shirts using dye sublimation or direct-to-garment technology using materials and equipment donated by Epson, Fruit of the Loom, Sawgrass and Stahls’. Visitors will have the option to print a butterfly or astronaut design that correlates with this year’s event theme, “STEM Can Take You,” showcasing all areas STEM reaches — from nature to outer space and beyond.
More than 350,000 attendees are expected at this year’s USA Science & Engineering Festival Expo, which is free for attendees with donations accepted. The event’s speakers, interactive exhibits and 25 stage shows will cover a large variety of topics for all ages, from toddlers to adults. It will also include a STEM Career Pavilion with more than 70 colleges, universities and companies highlighting STEM internships, mentorships and afterschool programs. School groups, homeschoolers and military families are invited to preview the expo floor on “Sneak Peek Friday,” on April 6, but must pre-register.
