Rhin-O-Tuff to Showcase Breakthrough Finishing Solution at PRINTING United
Because so much of the output from digital presses needs to be collated, punched and readied for binding, that is where post-print bottlenecks often tend to occur. Rhin-O-Tuff has a solution for automating the process and boosting production throughput – and it will present the new technology in booth 11464 at PRINTING United (Dallas, Tex., October 23-25, 2019).
John Lugviel, the company’s VP Business Development, calls the Tornado Autopunch EX a breakthrough not only for Rhin-O-Tuff but for print finishing everywhere. The world’s first automated collating punch, the Tornado Autopunch EX, combines multiple finishing steps in an integrated system that can handle even the most complex finishing applications with swiftness and ease.
Tornado Autopunch EX automatically interposes pages, covers, index tabs and inserts in one sequence, delivering complete, fully punched and collated book blocks that are ready for the final binding step. Consolidating these tasks in the same machine does away with offline collating, slip sheet removal, and other manual chores that slow production down.
Simultaneous punching and collating “eliminates the need for two different solutions to accomplish what the new Tornado Autopunch EX can do in one platform,” Lugviel says. He notes that in test of the system against a traditional punching / collating workflow, Tornado Autopunch EX achieved an overall time savings of 57%.
The system’s unique combination of air-driven side blowing and sheet separation enables it to speed through heavy, static-prone substrates such as acetates. Advanced features include RFID-tagged punch die sets that let Tornado Autopunch EX automatically adjust itself for any of nine punching styles.
What’s more, according to Lugviel, the system is easy to use. “This new finishing solution is designed from the bottom up to operate like a copier through our advanced graphic user interface,” he says. “Operator training and daily use is very similar to operating a copier, which will dramatically reduce training time and provide a much smaller set of required operator skills to run a variety of applications.”
Lugviel says Rhin-O-Tuff decided to bring Tornado Autopunch EX to PRINTING United “to present our newest technology and broad range of products to a broader audience than we have in the past.” The company, a leader in punching and binding solutions, will find exactly the type of interest it is looking for at the event, a joint venture of the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) and NAPCO Media.
With 90% of its exhibit space already reserved, PRINTING United will host more than 500 exhibitors across all categories of graphic reproduction. Accompanied by BRAND United, a co-located educational program aimed at brand owners, PRINTING United offers a new perspective on profiting in segments from garment to graphic, packaging to commercial, and industrial to in-plant.
This is what drove Rhin-O-Tuff’s decision to participate as an exhibitor, according to Lugviel.
“After nearly 30 years of delivering the highest quality, heavy duty tabletop punch and bind solutions, we are taking the finishing industry to a new level of automation with our Tornado Autopunch EX,” he declares. “The Tornado Autopunch EX will open up new opportunities for print service providers in not only the traditional printer space, but also in corporate and government environments and in-plants.”
All of these segments, and more, will be represented at the premier edition of PRINTING United, which encourages print service providers to broaden their business horizons with the help of solutions from innovators like Rhin-O-Tuff.
