Packaging and in-store retail POS specialist ProPrint Services (ProPrint) has added a fourth Kongsberg cutting table to its production facilities, with the recent installation of a new fully automated end-to-end digital finishing solution from Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems (Kongsberg PCS).
To meet growing customer demand, the company – which has for more than 30 years produced consumer and trade packaging boxes and purpose-built point of sale displays – has invested in the Kongsberg C64 Digital Finishing Table with Feeder and Stacker at its plant in Scarborough, Toronto.
“Speed to market is key in our industry, and after purchasing a new high-performance wide format printer, we needed a cutting system that could keep up,” said Richard Krakower, CEO of ProPrint. “With seamless and efficient production, the Kongsberg is the best on the market. We know this is the case because this is now our fourth Kongsberg - we have one dedicated to our design team and now this is our third for the production team.”
The new digital finishing solution is complemented by the Kongsberg Feeder and Stacker, delivering a fully automated, pallet-to-pallet solution for improved efficiency, productivity, and unerring accuracy.
“The C64 assures ProPrint the highest levels of performance,” said Vince Tuccitto, Kongsberg PCS Territory Sales Manager for Eastern Canada. “With its state-of-the-art engineering and aerospace technology, it is designed to deliver the greatest cutting accuracy and consistency.
“Productivity is maximized with the automated Feeder and Stacker, with its impressive stack height and quick automatic load cycles making short-run production of a wide variety of materials simple. The underside camera scans each sheet from below, on the print side, automatically locating the registration marks, barcodes, and the corner of the sheet,” he said. “This can save the operator as much as thirty minutes on each setup, boosting productivity without compromising on quality.”
Richard said he was delighted ProPrint was continuing a relationship with Kongsberg after more than 10 years of working together. “From conceptual illustrations, graphic design, to prepress, our team brings brands, campaigns, or product visions to life,” he said. “When we first brought large format digital to our floor over 10 years ago, with our design department, Kongsberg was our first choice as a cutting system.
“Speed and quality are of huge importance to our customers, and therefore they’re important to us,” he added. “With this new Kongsberg C64 and automated Feeder and Stacker, the set-up time is minimal, and once running it is 100% hands-off production.
“While the system is a dream for long runs, it is also incredibly simple to use without automation for shorter runs. It is simply a great solution. The speed is great, and the quality is exact,” he said. “You would be genuinely hard-pressed to determine if the finished product had been made using CNC or die cut.”
