LAS VEGAS, Nev. — October 2, 2018 — Higher throughput. Faster turnaround. High print quality. Just in time. These criteria are the most important when selecting the right hardware and software for print service providers, and in particular for wide-format printers. Increasing incoming orders with simultaneously decreasing print runs require the conversion to automated processes. The decisive factor here is a perfect interaction between software and hardware.
At the SGIA Expo from October 18-20, 2018, OneVision Software will demonstrate how its Wide Format Automation Suite acts as the perfect link – the so-called middleware – between the webshop system/MIS and RIP.
An extensive prepress suite that includes not only preflighting, color management and file normalization, but also flattening of transparencies or automatic generation of bleed and white masks together with a flexible workflow management system help to automate time-consuming manual prepress work to a large extent. In the first step, incoming files are checked for errors, corrected and normalized, bleed, varnish or white masks are created or adapted, color space conversions are performed, etc. The result: automated prepress, a relieved RIP and a smooth printing process.
Innovative functions such as nesting and tiling and paneling allow print subjects to be grouped or positioned dynamically. This leads to lower substrate and ink consumption. If required, several print runs can be combined into one via the ganging function, thus shortening production times.
To simplify the implementation of a holistic end-to-end workflow for print shops, the Wide Format Automation Suite also includes a cut line manager that repairs broken cut lines and generates a cut line PDF analogue to the print PDF. This gives the cutter instructions for a seamless finishing process.
Just in time for SGIA, the Regensburg-based company is releasing its new software version 18.2, which focuses on extended barcode functionality. Thus the user receives now extended possibilities for the placement of barcodes. The nesting function has also been further expanded, so that it is now also optimized for guillotine-ganging cutting machines, which greatly simplifies the nesting of labels that are cut with a conventional cutting machine. With the "tiling" function, file formats larger than the maximum print format can now be automatically tiled and divided into several smaller individual parts for production.
SGIA Expo is the largest printing technology trade show in North America and is hosted by the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA).
