“Rolling with the Workflow,” on Friday, October 25th at 10:00am in Room C144, will be an interactive adventure into navigating the ever-changing wave of jobs facing commercial, in-plant, and transactional print shops, Led by Anthony Leccese, Product Manager, Output and Prepress Solutions for Rochester Software Associates (Booth 132008), the session will provide an overview on the modern workflow — from capturing the job to printing to finishing, packing, and shipping.
Discussion will focus on how to automate all the different phases of production, with an emphasis on shops that are working with more than one type of job, file format, source, or production steps. “Unless a shop has simple requirements, one software solution is not going to meet all the shop’s needs,” notes Leccese. “However, a unified management system to centrally manage and track all jobs is essential for smoothing out the job flow.”
Also essential is the management solution’s ability to integrate upstream and downstream systems, as well as additional applications to perform document enhancements.” Automating individual steps is just one part of ensuring a streamlined workflow; if you’re manually moving between production phases because an upstream or downstream system is not integrated, productivity will be limited,” observes Leccese. “ And while automation is the goal, the output management system also needs to allow manual intervention for exception cases that don’t conform to the existing process.”
The session will be framed around real-world examples, including those suggested by attendees. Those attending will be able to evaluate their current print shop workflows and see if they are using the right solutions and using them effectively. Attendees can then also judge if the solutions they utilize are working well together or if they need a central management system to tie all the phases together.
