Finding Success in Packaging
While it’s true that getting good advice will help you find success in any segment you choose to pursue, that is especially true when it comes to packaging, which is a very different type of printing than most attendees of SGIA Expo have traditionally created. With that in mind, we asked a few of the experts to chime in with their advice on the best practices printers should keep in mind as they add — or consider adding — packaging to their product lineup.
“There are many factors to consider for success, but one key concern is color reproduction,” says Jose Luis Ramon Moreno, GM, EFI Industrial Printing (Booth 1501). “Our first EFI Nozomi press user, the Spanish corrugated packaging company Hinojosa, is producing packaging for toys, fresh fruit and vegetables, food and beverages, household products, cleaning products and toiletries. That press is a 6-color press, and having that gamut has proven invaluable in meeting critical brand color reproduction requirements.”
“Choosing the right equipment, especially a strong vacuum is needed,” agrees Petra Fetting, Marketing Services & Communication, swissQprint (Booth 1253). She went on to note that another major consideration is a “staff who understands the packaging process.”
“Always be sure to completely understand the wants and needs — and especially the client emotional desires — into the entire product experience, including the packaging,” stresses Dana E. Goodale, Director of Hardware and Software Solutions, Gerber Technology (Booth 1656).
Finally, notes David Conrad, Director of Sales and Marketing, Mutoh America Inc. (Booth 2545), “Do your homework. Study the market and understand the applications and how to deliver the best solution for your customers in your market space. With this market there is a lot to learn, so you can never have too much information.”
