ColDesi, Inc. Unveils New Direct-to-Film Transfer Printer: DTF-24H2

ColDesi recently announced the addition of its new flagship Direct-to-Film Transfer Printer, the DTF-24H2, to the DigitalHeat FX line.

The DTF-24H2 produces full-color digital transfer sheets, handling everything from single color shirt labels to left chest logos to full-size prints.

“This is the next step in digital garment decoration,” said Don Copeland, the UV and DTG Product Manager at ColDesi.  “We are taking the speed of inkjet and the ability to do full color and applying it in a situation where we create transfers that are similar to direct-to-garment in feel and full color, but this allows you to knock out hundreds and hundreds of shirts in the time that you do a few dozen in direct to garment.”

The DTF-24H2 printer uses PET transfer film which is translucent so you can see the design underneath the film when you later heat-press it onto the garment.

The printer has a dual print head design that lays down the colors in a blend of CMYK colors with the first printhead and then lays down the perfect amount of white under base on top of the colors in perfect alignment so that you do not have any white peeking out.

The alignment is on the film, rather than on the bumpy fabric of the shirts so it creates a crisp design edge that you can’t even get with traditional screen printing, reports ColDesi.

“It combines inkjet with the traditional method of transfer making similar to screen printing,” said Jerid Hill, DTG Manager. “When originally creating screen printing transfers, they would add a powder to it for durability and adhesion.  This is essentially what our direct-to-film printer does but it inkjet prints DIGITALLY onto the film, automatically adds the adhesive powder, and dries it rapidly. So you can produce full color, perfect transfers very quickly.”

As part of a DigitalHeat FX system, which includes the Print Optimizer software, users will have ultimate control over the ink laydown.

“What separates the ColDesi DTF Printer from others is the unique combination of film inks and adhesive powder. We tested dozens of combinations before landing on the perfect combination. The best hand (feel), look and washability... it even stretches,” said Mark Stephenson, Director of Marketing.

The company reports that the DTF-24H2 is perfect for those with high volume production, who need to decorate in full color but don’t want to go through the mess and expense of a screen print set up.
