Faces Behind Masks, the non-profit organization working to help personalize medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, announces the launch of its initiative to provide medical teams globally with free personalized photo stickers to wear over their protective gear. The initiative has already printed 380,000 stickers featuring medical personnels’ smiling faces and aims to be available for all hospitals globally.
Imagine lying in a hospital bed as a child. Instead of being reassured by the warm smile of a doctor, you’re surrounded by faceless people covered head-to-toe in white, alien-like suits. That’s the reality of medical care in hospitals for children and adults alike during the COVID-19 era, as medical staff globally gear up to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Faces Behind Masks returns the humanity to medical professionals, letting patients see who is treating them.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Faces Behind Masks provides medical personnel all over the world with sets of personalized photo stickers of their headshots to wear over their gear. Each medical team member needs anywhere from 100-300 face stickers, depending on which department of the hospital they work in. The initiative’s easy-to-use portal, Behindmasks, helps them upload and automatically create the headshots, which also feature the doctor’s name and the flag of the country in which the patient is being treated, all over the world.
“It must be terrifying to be a very young patient—or an elderly patient—during the COVID-19 era,” says Rafi Albo, Founder of the Faces Behind Masks global initiative. “The bare minimum for patients to feel safe is the ability to see what their doctor looks like, and that’s what Faces Behind Masks is all about.”
