Three of Canada’s largest outdoor sign companies are seeking leave to appeal the Plateau Mont Royal’s ban on billboards to the Supreme Court of Canada.
In September, the Quebec Court of Appeal upheld a bylaw outlawing outdoor advertising panels in the borough and ordered the companies to demolish dozens of billboards.
That ruling struck down a 2016 decision by Quebec Superior Court, that found the anti-billboard regulation, adopted in 2010, was unconstitutional because it violated freedom of expression under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
