Every January, I like to spend time reflecting on the previous year while planning for the next. Last year, I made some predictions about what I thought I’d see in 2024 in regards to wide-format printing in the interior market. This year, I’m pulling out my crystal ball again to see where I think this market will grow in 2025.
I see the possibility for growth in three main areas.
Custom Murals & Art Installations
Across markets, experiential design has been a growing trend. The secret is out that wide-format digital printing has made customizing spaces accessible for designers. Designers are using murals to add location flavor or feature the work of local artists. Murals are also useful in spaces that aren’t permanent, such an event space. People are even embracing this technology to add unique murals to their homes.
While some designers may be slow to adopt new suppliers for large-scale projects or huge quantities, murals are an easy way for interior designers to test out a new supplier with a one-of-a-kind statement piece. By working with designers on unique, smaller scale projects, print service providers have the opportunity to educate new clients about the possibilities of this technology.
Texture in Printing
I have been so inspired by advancements in adding texture with digital printing. Printers such as the Dimense that add dimension and texture give designers exciting new options for their materials. As a pattern designer, designing for this new technology is exciting and I see this as having a major impact on the interiors market because it opens up so many more creatives opportunities.
Transparency about Sustainability
Sustainability in a project can mean something different to different people along the supply chain. Today, consumers and designers are better educated about sustainability and have no patience for greenwashing anymore. The past few years at NeoCon, designers have communicated that they want to know about the entire life cycle of a product. They also want more transparency in how a product is made, with what, by whom, and how far it traveled to get to its destination. People are no longer satisfied with simple labels of “recycled content.” They want all the available information so they can make the right decision for each project and client.
What do you predict for 2025?
I continue to be excited about the possibilities for wide-format printing to grow in the interiors market. Are you? Where do you see this market going in 2025?
